What is your Why?

Everyday you wake up and tackle your day... well today is Monday so maybe sometimes it's more of a sloth-like walk towards what awaits you, but either way, you get into it.

I'd like to think that we are all working towards something. Whether it is a career, family, or personally oriented goal, we should always be striving to better ourselves or the world around us in some way. Otherwise... what are we doing? Turning oxygen into carbon dioxide?

I guess the first question is why better ourselves or the world around us at all? The first word that pops into my head is fulfillment. If we maintain what could only be called settling, would we feel fulfilled as individuals? I think that without much thought, we can assume that no, there is not fulfillment in settling. Settling is what you do at the grocery store when they don't have your favorite brand of almond butter and you have to get your second favorite. It is not what you should do in life and in love.

So that leads me to my next question. What are you passionate about and how does that fit into your life? Is what you are passionate about currently a part of your life? I hope that you answer yes to this, but I find that often the answer to this question is no. People dream about their passions and rarely incorporate them into their lives tangibly. But what if you could? What if you could take what you feel passionate about and work it into your daily life? That doesn't necessarily mean a career change, but it could. It could be incorporated as a side project or a hobby. It could be incorporated in your family or your friends or where you live. There are many different outlets to which your passions could be applied, and in the application you would find fulfillment and purpose.

What is your purpose? And without purpose, aren't we just settling? If we go in, day in and day out, without some kind of agenda or goal in mind, it sort of starts to feel pointless, maybe even a little hopeless. To fill that void we must find our why, and in the why lies our purpose.

Why do you go to work everyday? Maybe you aren't passionate about your job, but maybe you care deeply about providing for your family and financial security. So now you don't HAVE to go to work, you GET to go fulfill your purpose. Your why.

Your why is critical when driving towards a goal, otherwise the goal is empty and your expectation of gratification will not be met.

All the most impactful people in the world have a why and it is literally what propelled them into greatness. Your why will be what fuels you when you want to quit, Your why will be the reason that you spend the extra ten minutes on your craft. Your why will ultimately be the difference between your personal success or failure.

Why should we settle for a life that gets us through the day, but ultimately doesn't fulfill our hearts and minds and souls? Instead I challenge you to think of what you are passionate about and how that can be applied to your daily life.

Find your why for everyday living, and every day will cease to be just another day.
