Summer Refreshment in a Glass

By now I think we have all heard how great Apple Cider Vinegar is for you- and it's true! Apple cider vinegar is known for boosting immunity, aiding with digestion, promoting weight loss, and can even improve symptoms of diabetes. However, shooting a serving of this stuff everyday might not be your cup of tea.
My preferred brand is Vermont Village (Costco sells it in a 2-pack!) because it is raw and organic and it also boasts a "smoother flavor". It also contains what is called the "Mother", which is basically a long strain of healthy bacteria which can boost your gut biome positively. Even with the "smooth" flavor though, taking a shot of this stuff 2-3 times a week is not pleasant.

But I have good news! Haymaker Punch, also known as Switchel, is a simple, healthy and refreshing punch that you can make using your fave apple cider vinegar. This recipe also contains honey and ginger which also have awesome health properties. Since I am currently unable to indulge in a nice IPA or glass of sauvignon blanc, I am always looking for yummy and refreshing drinks to have other than water (which I love but gets boring when it's literally all you drink!). This has turned out to be a great summer drink. I love it really really cold- like over a glass full of crushed ice. It has some acidity to it, but the honey levels it out nicely.
Here's what you'll need:
A quart sized drink container
1/4 cup apple cider vinegar
1/4 cup honey (preferably organic, but no comb)
1 tsp fresh ginger (I just use ground ginger since that's what I have at home normally)
1 tsp lemon juice
Just combine all ingredients and then add cold, filtered water to fill the container (roughly 24 ounces). You can play with the amount of water to get the flavor that you want. Like I said earlier, I normally serve over a lot of ice so I don't add as much water to keep it a little stronger.
I tell you what, I can't wait to make myself a batch and then take it poolside - healthy hydration at its' finest! Give it a whirl and be sure to let me know what you think or if you've had it before in the comments!
